TEXT
"And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" (Luke chapter 18 verse 18)
There is still more to say about the actual value we place on our Savior Jesus Christ and His Kingdom.
The "certain ruler" in the Scripture reading for today wanted to know what he must do to inherit eternal life. Jesus encouraged him to obey all the commandments; and in reply he said, “Master, all these have I observed from my youth.” The Bible says, “Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.” (Mark chapter 10 verse 21).
On hearing this, the rich young ruler went away sad. He was very much tied to his possessions and the Bible makes us understand that he had great possessions; or as someone rightly put it: “his great possessions had him.”
Jesus then looked round about and said to His disciples, “...How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!” (Mark chapter 10 verse 23). He wanted them to understand that salvation wasn’t going to be by their money or their great possessions but by the Spirit of God.
Jesus wanted the rich young man to put his trust in God, the Giver of wealth, not in his wealth.
Many people have misplaced their priorities, putting their trust in their possessions, not in the Giver of possessions. Your prosperity isn’t dependent on any man or your business acumen, not even the systems and governments of this world, or the economy, but on God. It’s by His grace that you are what you are today.
This man came to the One who had eternal life but missed it because it eventually became apparent that he loved the world more than eternal life.
It's good occasionally that we examine ourselves, what our take is concerning the things of God. Do you have much flair for the things of the world than you have for the things of God? Is the world your standard of living? One thing we have to know is that God has His standard and the world also has it's standards of living. The voice of the world, and its ways are usually louder than the voice of the Holy Spirit. We've got to be very careful, in order to be able to differentiate between the two.
The world has no special relationship with God, but you and I have a special relationship with God.
The big question is this: how is your relationship with God?
Your answer will determine the price tag you have placed on our Savior Jesus Christ.
PRAYER
Thank You Heavenly Father for the gift of Eternal life, I shall not miss out on it, by Your grace in Jesus Mighty name.
