LESSONS FROM THE LIFE OF KING DAVID (PART 4).

TEXT

"...And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither." (1st Samuel 16 verse 11, King James Version).

We have noted in the previous series that when prophet Samuel came to Jesse and asked him to present his sons before the Lord, he didn't consider David, his youngest son worthy of being called to be presented to the prophet. To Jesse, David was merely a boy, the youngest of his sons and in the matter under consideration, to him, David was inconsequential and insignificant.

But the Lord proved Jesse wrong. Although he was David's father, he didn't know that his youngest son was indeed created and born to be king. The Bible says in Romans 11 verse 23 that God's "ways are past finding out". Here is a lesson for parents, that they be careful how they treat or relate to their children because although they came to the world through them, their destinies are not fully known by them. So it was with Jesse and David. Who could have told Jesse that David, his little shepherd boy would be king, the greatest king amongst the kings of Israel, the sweet Psalmist of Israel, the progenitor and the type of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ?

It's possible that the one reading this devotional this morning has in one way or another suffered neglect, been demeaned or rubbished by people whom you expected to have shown you love, respect, regard, estimation and admiration. I urge you to be patient! For, in a little while here after, God will show up for you, raise you up before them. On that day, they will be ashamed of their mistakes and misdeeds towards you. Soon, the Lord will raise you up from the dunghill and make you sit amongst princes, even the princes of your people, in Jesus name (Psalms 113 verses 7 to 8).

According to the Scripture reading for today, when Jesse had made all his seven sons pass before prophet Samuel and God, having rejected them one after the other, prophet Samuel asked if these were all his children. There upon, Jesse revealed that "There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep." Prophet Samuel, sensing that this neglected shepherd boy must be the chosen one, said unto Jesse, "Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither." (1st Samuel 16 verses 10 to 11). This was a display of tremendous honor and respect to David, regardless of his age and what he might look like should he eventually show up. Though David was initially excluded from the roll call, God rejected all that were presented and had them stand until he arrived.

I prophesy to you, dearly beloved child of God that in this year, the Lord will honor you before those that once neglected and demeaned you, in Jesus name. Like David, God will cause men to show you honor and respect in places you had been shown disrespect and neglect, in Jesus name.

PRAYER:

Thank you Lord for choosing me and honoring me before the people that neglect and demean me, in Jesus name.
