ONE THING IS NEEDFUL (PART 2)
SONG :
Into my heart, into my heart. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. Come in today, come in to stay. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus.
TEXT :
Luke.10.41 - 42 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
- But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
Jesus said "one thing is needful". Call it course or dish that was necessary on the occasion, yet Martha provided many, and that needless provision was the cause of the anxiety and extra labour.
Mary on the other hand availed herself of the present opportunity to hear the Lord's teaching and informed herself in those things which were essential to the salvation of her soul. She knew one thing that the work can always wait or will always be there. But Jesus will not always be there. Other things are of little importance, the Kingdom of God is the most important and must be secured first.
NOTE :The salvation of souls is the first and the greatest of all human concerns and also love and devotion that express itself in a quiet worship, prayer, Word of God and fellowship with the Lord.
Jesus cared nothing for bodily indulgence, the most important thing is the bread of life, and Mary had chosen it. Luke 4:4 says "And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God."
He who receives most of His Word and Spirit is most pleasing in His sight.
We need to spend a regular and quality time, sitting at the feet of Jesus like Mary, not minding any other thing that may present itself, craving for our attention.
Do not make the mistake of trying to work Him into your schedule but make a decision to put Him first and work the rest of your schedule around your time with Him.
Spending time studying the word of God, praying and fellowshipping with Him changes us and makes us strong enough to withstand whatever challenges that come our way.
The truth is that we really can not get along well at all, unless we do one thing which is needed.
1 Timothy 4:8 reveals: "For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come."
The first thing for our soul’s health, the first thing for His glory, and the first thing for our own usefulness, is to keep ourselves in perpetual communion with the Lord Jesus, and to see that the vital spirituality of our religion is maintained over and above everything else in the world
PRAYER :
Lord Jesus, You are all I need. Help me to put You first in my life and every other thing second, I pray.
