YOU ARE THE WAY YOU THINK.
TEXT:
"For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:" (Proverbs chapter 23 verse 7, King James Version).
To God, our thoughts and conduct are the same. This is very serious. That being so, we ought to be careful with what constitutes our thoughts, because with God, as you think in your heart, so you are. The same way as Proverbs chapter 23 verse 7 shows us that the heart overflows through conduct, we are made to understand in Matthew chapter 12 verse 34 that the heart overflows through words also. This is why we have been admonished to guard our hearts with all diligence because out of it are the issues of life (Proverbs chapter 4 verse 23).
The general import of Proverbs chapter 23 verse 7, our Scripture reading for today is that your life moves in the direction of your dominant thoughts. There are laws that are sacrosanct, the violation of which spells disaster for us. For instance, our desire for a pure heart dictates that we keep our lives, for example, from watching movies that are full of obscene acts. In that case, you're going to have to learn to think on things that are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, virtuous, praiseworthy, and of good report (Philippians chapter. 4 verse 8).
According to Romans chapter 8 verse 6, to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Since our emotions will necessarily gravitate towards what we think, it becomes important that we take steps to shape our thought life in line with God's thoughts and what we desire to see happen to us in life. Towards this end, the Word of God has been given to us to meditate upon. As we meditate upon God's Word, we become what the Word says. In 2nd Corinthians chapter 3 verse 18, the Bible says, "But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord."
What you focus your life on is what you become. The Bible says that God will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him (Isaiah chapter 26 verse 3). In other words, this is a command to keep our mind stayed on the Lord and His Word. You can't desire to see peace when you are constantly thinking of depressing things. By doing so, you'll be depressed. If you're thinking on the Lord and His Word, you'll be full of life, joy, and peace. The fellow that desires healing to his mortal body ought to think healing thoughts, because as you think in your heart, so you become. In that regard, what he should do is to educate his spirit with healing promises from God's Word.
Be careful therefore what you let into your thought life because very soon, it will yield for you what it represents.
PRAYER:
Everyday of my life, I focus on renewing my mind with God's Word, so I can always think God's thoughts in order to become what He desires of me, in Jesus name.
