THE WORD WORKS
TEXT:
"For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe." (1 Thessalonians chapter 2 verse 13, King James Version).
Yes, the Word of God effectively works for those that believe. It worked for Jesus, it worked for the Apostles and the believers of old. Even today, the Word of God works for believers. The question is, are you a believer? If so, be rest assured that the Word of God will work for you as it did for others.
Take the case of the Lord Jesus for an example. The Bible says that He was led into the wilderness, to be tempted by the devil (see Matthew chapter 4 verses 1 to 11). It's amazing how the Lord Jesus responded to satan's temptations. The Lord Jesus simply responded to every satanic temptation with, "It is written". This is a fundamental example for us to emulate and to follow as believers in Christ. If Jesus overcame by the Word, we would likewise overcome by the Word.
The Bible refers to the Word of God as "the Sword of the Spirit" (Ephesians chapter 6 verse 17); and among the Armours of God mentioned in Ephesians chapter 6, the Word of God is the only offensive weapon we have in the faith. All the others are practically defensive.
Since Jesus is the Living Word of God, anything He would have said in response to those satanic temptations could have been effective. But instead, the Lord had recourse to the written Word of God as His responses to those satanic temptations, the same written Word that is available to us today.
If the written Word of God sustained the Lord Jesus at those crucial moments of temptation, we are unequivocally assured that the same written Word of God is effective and sufficient for us today in moments of trials and temptations.
Dear beloved, understand that satan's plot is to keep you from reading, studying, memorizing, meditating and finally, from doing the Word. This is so because satan knows how effective God's Word is and particularly when it's spoken in faith. Get back to the Word. Make the Word your companion. Let it dwell richly in you. Satan fears nothing but this, because he knows how dangerous the knowledge and the accurate application of God's Word is to him and his kingdom. If he knows that the Word works, then as God's child, you shouldn't be ignorant of this wholesome truth. Brethren, know that the Word works!
PRAYER:
The Word of God in my life and in my mouth is effective against the devil and every of his evil machinations against me, in Jesus name.
