THE NAME OF JESUS (PART 1)

"And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you. 24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full" - John 16:23 (KJV)

The name of Jesus has been given to us for use in prayer to God. A look at the verse cited above gives us a clear picture of the name of Jesus serving as key to getting answers from God to our requests in prayers. The name of Jesus is a name that is vested with power and authority to accomplish whatever we ask, be it in heaven, on earth and below the earth - Jn 16:23-24; Phil 2:9-11. The primary reason why Jesus' name has been given to us to ask things in prayer is that when we ask, we receive, that our joy may be full (John 16:23)

But l must confess that so many of us do not understand the use of that holy and powerful name of the Son of God. To use the name of Jesus at the end of prayers connotes an understanding that goes beyond the mere use of the name as an appendage to prayer. The name of Jesus at the end of prayers should not be used merely as a "tag" to our prayers as many Christians do today. To pray and request in Jesus' name is an acknowledgement and reliance on the finished work of God's Christ on the cross; to which we have been called in order to find joy and rest in God. It is to let God know that you ask knowing that Jesus has done what is necessary for God to accede to and grant your request.

When you ask anything in the name of Jesus, it's as though Jesus Himself were the One making the request before the Father. When Jesus gave us His name to use in prayer, He wanted us to know and understand that the use of His name by us carried some vicarious connotations; that before God, it was as if He were the One doing the asking. What's more, it's comforting to know that never was there any time that God didn't hear Jesus' prayer. In John 11:42 , Jesus Himself testified, saying:

"And I knew that thou hearest me always: ... "

For us, this means that as we use the name of Jesus in prayer, we are sure that the Father hears us always, just as He heard Jesus always.

Nothing pleases God than seeing His children walking in knowledge and in agreement with Him! Once you have this understanding, you'll start experiencing a new phase of life in Christ, characterized by answered prayers.

I pray that this be your portion; wishing you a blessed day, in Jesus name.

PRAYER:

Dearest Heavenly Father, thank you for hearing me always because I pray in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ.
