THE EVER REFRESHING OIL(PART 1)

SONG

Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning.

Give me oil in my lamp, I pray.

Give me oil in my lamp, keep me burning, keep me burning till the break of day

TEXT

"Summon your might, O God. Display your power, O God, as you have in the past." - Ps.68:28 - [NLT]

"Parade your power, O God, the power, O God, that made us what we are." - Ps.68:28 [MSB]

Why do we need to faint when we can be strong? 'For greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.' Why do we need to suffer defeat when we can conquer? 'For He has overcome and has given us victory.'  Hallelujah!

The Bible says “Strengthen, O God, that which thou hast wrought for us" - Ps 68:28, KJV.

God’s power is ever and always available and ready for our use.

It is wise as well as necessary to beseech God at all times to strengthen that which he has wrought in us. As Christians, let us not neglect to do this, so that we do not end up blaming ourselves for some trials and afflictions that arise from unbelief. In the first place, it was the grace of God that brought us in, and that same grace, by the help of the Holy Spirit is more than able to sustain us.

"Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts." - Zech.4:6.

We can not run the race or win the battle by our own strength and power, but by the Spirit of the Lord. The flesh, the Bible says, does not profit us, but by the Spirit we prevail.

There's no doubt that Satan seeks to flood our hearts with doubts and unbelief. His aim is to make it a scene of desolation. It may interest us that many of us Christians leave our hearts carelessly open to all manner of things, leaving ourselves vulnerable to all kinds of temptations.

Let us not forget that the Author of our faith is also the Preserver of it. God Himself is the One that gives strength to the weary.

For instance, in the Old Testament, the lamp that was burning in the temple was never allowed to go out, but was daily replenished with fresh oil. Like in the house of the Interpreter in the book "the pilgrim progress", the fire never went out because there was an Angel that was pouring oil into the fire.

Our faith can only live by being sustained with the oil of grace that comes from the Lord.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your grace that is always available for Your children. Thank You also for Your oil that  never runs dry.
