DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE GOD? (PART 6)

TEXT:

"And when he was come into the house, the blind men came to him: and Jesus saith unto them, Believe ye that I am able to do this? They said unto him, Yea, Lord. Then touched he their eyes, saying, According to your faith be it unto you." (Matthew chapter 9 verse 28 and 29, Kings James Version )

To some of us, our problem is not with God's ability to do what He said to do. Most times, like the leper in Matthew chapter 8 verse 3, the problem is whether God is willing to do for us what we're asking Him to do.

Notwithstanding, one basic principle of the Christian faith is that we must believe in God's ability to do what we believe Him to do for us.

Two blind men had approached Jesus for healing and His question to them was, "Believe ye that I am able to do this?" Upon giving Him an affirmative response, Jesus touched their eyes, saying, "According to your faith be it unto you." (Matthew chapter 9 verse 28 and 29, Kings James Version ). It's clear that they received their miracle in accordance with their faith.

In Hebrews chapter 11 verse 6, we have it explicitly stated as a principle of the Christian faith that without faith it is impossible to please God: "for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

Having told us that without faith it is impossible to please God, the Bible goes on further in Romans chapter 10 verse 17, to intimate us with how to get faith; saying,

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." In other words, If we don't have faith, it is not God's fault. To blame God for our lack of faith is nothing but ignorance. God has provided the way whereby everyone can have faith. It comes by hearing God's Word!

Notwithstanding, in Romans chapter 12 verse 3 we are told that to every believer, God has dealt "the measure of faith". Because everyone was given "the measure of faith", there will never be an excuse not to believe in God. It's my firm argument therefore, that we all have the capacity to believe God.

Now, if we all have faith with which to believe God, how come that some people don't receive answers to their prayers, moreso as Jesus told us that

"If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth."? (Mark chapter 9 verse 23).

It's either because such people are ignorant that they have been blessed with and ought to "live by the faith of the Son of God" (Galatians chapter 2 verse 20), or that they don't know how to release the faith which they already have.

We note that Romans chapter 12 verse 3 reveals that there aren't varying measures or different amounts of faith bestowed upon us as Christians. Apostle Paul told us that he lived by the faith of the Son of God (Galatians chapter 2 verse 20); then that means every other born-again believer like him also has the faith of Jesus the Son of God. What a fantastic truth!

Simon Peter, the apostle of Christ told us likewise in 2nd Peter chapter 1 verse 1 that we have "obtained like precious faith" with the apostles; and that this faith came through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Even if you don't yet understand how to release your faith to receive from God, the Bible encourages us to ensure that at least, we acknowledge it's existence in us. (Philemon chapter 1 verse 6). By doing so, we receive the motivation that is needed for the child of God to hang on until he sees it made manifest through him.

PRAYER:

I'm aware that I have the faith of Jesus Christ functioning in me. Nothing therefore stops me from receiving answers to my prayers. Hallelujah!
