WHERE TO FIND YOUR PURPOSE IN LIFE.

SONG

You are my portion, you are my lot.

My inheritance and my reward.

You're all I need, you're all I've got.

You're my everything O LORD.

You're my everything O LORD

TEXT

Everything, absolutely everything … got started in him and finds its purpose in him.” (Colossians 1:16 MSG)

The Bible says, "It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for.

And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. (Col.1.17 KJV) The Good News translation puts it much clearer: "Christ existed before all things, and in union with him all things have their proper place." - Colossians 1:17 GNT

To discover your purpose in life, you must turn to God's Word, not to the wisdom of the world. You must build your life on eternal truths, not on Philosophy or Psychology, success tips, motivational, or inspirational stories, etc

Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, He had His eye on us, had designed us for a glorious living.

The verses cited above gives us three insights into our purpose in life.

  1. You discover your identity and purpose through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
  2. God was thinking of you long before you ever thought about him. His purpose for your life predates your conception. He planned it before you existed, without your input! You may choose your career, your spouse, your hobbies, and many other parts of your life, but you don't get to choose your purpose for being in life.

"Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations." (JER.1.5 MSG)

  1. The purpose of your life fits into a much larger expanse than you can ever imagine, and this God has designed for eternity.

Most people don’t know the purpose of their lives. If you don’t know your purpose, you end up drifting through life. You get tossed around. It's a known fact that you don’t control your life; your life controls you! Also, you can’t tell yourself what your purpose is because you didn’t create yourself. Only the Creator can tell you what purpose you were created for. You will never, ever know the purpose of your life until you believe in Jesus Christ, because he is your Creator.

For instance, the producer of a car knows the purpose for which he manufactured the car. Cars are originally designed to be driven on the ground, not to fly, and to convey people from one place to the other. On the other hand, the aircraft is made to fly in the air to serve it's purpose. The car and the aircraft are therefore designed for different purposes. It's only their respective producers that can rightly define their respective purposes.

There’s only one way you’re going to learn the purpose of your life. You’ve got to find it out from your Creator.

The Bible says, “Everything, absolutely everything … got started in him and finds its purpose in him” (Colossians 1:16 MSG).

Today so many people are confused about their identity and  purpose in life. They say, “I don’t know who I am, and I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing with my life.” That’s because they’re looking in the wrong places. There is only One Place to find your identity and purpose in life, and that’s through a relationship with your Creator, Jesus Christ.

“It’s in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for …. part of the overall purpose He is working out in everything and everyone” (Ephesians 1:11MSG)

When you put your trust in Jesus Christ, you learn God’s purpose for your life.
