TRUST IN GOD (PART 7)

"O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed;" - Psalms 25:2 (KJV)

During moments of trials and afflictions, God's promises to us are such that they animate our lives and give us hope; moreso as the Lord who made them is faithful and is worthy of trust.

"Lord, never forget the promises you’ve made to me, for they are my hope and confidence. In all of my affliction I find great comfort in your promises, for they have kept me alive!" - Ps 119:49-50, TPT.

We put our trust in God for many reasons, foremost of which is to avert or forestall shame.

"In  thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed:" - Psalms 31:1 (KJV).

In our part 4 in the series, published on July 28, 2023, we noted that

"every promise of God is built upon four pillars: God’s justice and holiness, which will not suffer Him to deceive; His grace

or goodness, which will not suffer Him to forget; His truth, which will not suffer Him to change, His Might, which makes Him able to accomplish." These attributes of God, among others, have an untold bearing on God's willingness and ability to perform His promises to us. To the believer in Christ, since the Lord is avowedly known for His faithfulness to accomplishing His promises, He becomes worthy of his trust; so that in times of trouble, he turns to Him for help.

"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped:" (Psalms 28:7)

Why do men put their trust in the Lord?

Firstly, as we noted above, the first pillar on which every promise of God is built is His justice and holiness, which will not suffer Him to deceive. Justice has been defined as the quality of  being just, impartial, or fair, and in conformity to truth, fact, or reason. The Lord is a Just God.

" ... there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me." (Isa 45:21).

To be just is to act or be in conformity with what is morally upright or good. To be just is to be righteous; and the Lord is a Righteous God! The Lord being a Just or Righteous God, does justice

Another attribute of the LORD God is Holiness (Ps 71:22; 1Pet 1:15-16; Rev 4:8). Being Holy is that He is exalted or worthy of complete devotion as one perfect in goodness and righteousness. Deception is contrary to God's nature.

On the contrary, it is the devil that is a deceiver (2 Cor 11:3; 1 Tim 2:14; Rev 20:3,8,10). According to the record of Genesis it is written that “the woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” (Gen 3:13, CSB). It wasn't too long thereafter that Adam and Eve became aware of the devil's deceptive antic or prank. Till now, the devil's trade in stock has always been through deception! He deceived Eve, and today he continues to deceive her descendants, and unfortunately, with great success.

But not so with God! The combined effect of His Justice and Holiness forbids or precludes Him from being deceptive in regards to His promises; so that men are confident to put their trust in Him.

Dear child of God, dare to put your trust and faith in this Holy God, who has never been known to deceive those that believe in Him. God is faithful!

PRAYER:

Dear Lord, You have never been known to be deceptive, but have always been faithful to Your promises. For this alone, I trust You!
