TAME YOUR TONGUE THROUGH TONGUES!

TEXT:

" For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison." (James 3 verses 7 to 8, King James Version).

According to the Scripture reading for today, man has had good success in taming "every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea,". "But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison." The Bible goes on to describe the tongue in James 3 verse 6 as "a fire, a world of iniquity: ... that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature;". This is how bad the tongue can be. Check it out: most of humanity's ugliest moments have been caused by the misuse of the tongue, be it in the form of hateful or racist utterances, wars or whatever.

I think that one of the reasons why man hasn't been successful in taming the tongue is because as the King James Version of James 3 verse 6 says, "it is set on fire of hell." In other words, the tongue is often inspired by hell itself. Only God can bring deliverance to the tongue. Any wonder that a bad tongue is in many ways the organ of the devil himself?

Remember also that the sins of the tongue are among the six or seven things that God dislikes. Proverbs 6 verses 16 and 19 are clear on this:

"These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him ... A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren."

According to James 3 verse 8, "the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison". Though very little in size, it is the most difficult member of our body to tame. Notice that it says no man can tame the tongue. It doesn't say that God can't! Indeed, God can. But how can we bring in God to help us to tame the tongue? By speaking constantly in other tongues!

Speaking in tongues or rather, praying in other tongues can serve to bring your tongue under subjection. I had long understood that the ability to pray in the Holy Spirit inspired tongues is evidence of the submission of one's life to God. The Bible says in Acts 2 verse 4 that the Apostles in the upper room on the day of Pentecost "began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." This means that the Holy Spirit took control of their yielded tongues and gave them words to speak. The bottom line therefore is that the more you pray in other tongues, the more you'll learn to yield your tongue to the Holy Spirit. It therefore becomes easier to speak only words from God that serve to edify others.

The Holy Spirit inspired tongues functioning through you are simply a token to show that your life is submitted to God. That being so, as you speak in tongues regularly, your tongue comes under submission, influence and control of the Holy Spirit, thereby allowing Him to give you inspired utterances on a daily basis. Knowing this, I endeavour to speak in other tongues regularly.

So when you yield your tongue to the Holy Spirit and speak with other tongues on a regular basis, you are invariably taking a giant step toward fully yielding not only your tongue, but all the other members of your body to God. By doing this, you are fulfilling Romans 12 verse 1, which instructs that you "present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service."

Truth is, if you can yield your tongue, the most unruly member of your body to God, you can yield any member of your body to Him! Do this by speaking more in other tongues.

PRAYER:

Father, I yield to You my tongue. Take it and use it to your glory, in Jesus name
