MAKING NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS

TEXT:

"Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established."

( Proverbs 4 verse 26, King James Version).

All glory to God Almighty for the new year. That we are in a new year is absolutely an act of God's grace towards us.

Usually, the beginning of a new year brings to mind the past experiences of the previous year. That's when we take stock of what has transpired in our lives with plans to face the future with greater determination. That's when we make new year's resolutions.

The scripture reading for today actually supports the Idea of doing that. It tells us to "ponder the path of thy feet". It's a time to set new goals to be achieved in the future. With this we have a way of evaluating whether or not we're making progress in life.

I've oftentimes said that life without set goals is unattractive,  meaningless and at best a dull moment. We all need something to shoot at, or else we'll shoot at nothing. For instance, what makes the game of football interesting are the goals scored by the players. If there were no goal post for players to aim and shoot at, the game becomes dull, unattractive and unappealing.

It's so with a year without resolutions. The year becomes dull and goalless. But as we make new year resolutions, we have something to ask the Lord for. At the end of the day when we take stock and we find out that our resolutions or prayer points are answered, we feel excited about God's faithfulness. That's when our lives become meaningful, seeing that with the Lord's help, all our ways are established before Him (see Proverbs 4 verse 26).

As we have been graciously brought into the new year, let's go ahead with making new year's resolutions and asking the Lord for His help. This will enable us to assess whether our lives are going in the direction that's desirable or not. If it's not, then, there's a need to carry out some adjustments. I personally don't see anything wrong in looking back to remember the good and to learn from the bad. It's only the fool that will keep repeating the same thing year in, year out, expecting to achieve different results

In line with the Scripture reading for today, let's therefore ponder the path of our feet, and by God's help, all our ways will be established.

PRAYER:

Dear Heavenly Father, may You guide me to make worthwhile resolutions that will serve to help me to assess my progress in life, in Jesus name.
