IT'S HELPLESS TO BE ANXIOUS (PART 1)

TEXT:

"Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." (Matthew 6 verse 34, King James Version)

Except for the spiritually mature in faith, the admonition to not take thought for the morrow is a hard nut to crack, especially in these times of distress and economic downturn that are felt not only in our country, but everywhere in the globe. But for the integrity and the infallibility of the One who has asked that we take no thought for the morrow, with what's happening all over, no one will dare to not take thought for the morrow with regards to what to eat, what to wear and where to lay one's head. Since these are the Words of the Lord Himself, they are not only true, but loaded with power for fulfillment.

What most people don't understand is that God does not want to have us worried over our needs. In actual fact, it's correct to say that the Lord's admonition to us to not worry is a command. Matthew 6 verse 25, the English Standard Version puts it much clearly saying,

"Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?" He says, "do not be anxious about your life".

It's equally worthy of emphasis that the admonition to not take thought for our lives or for the morrow is first and foremost predicated upon what the Lord Jesus said in the previous verse to the one under consideration. This is so because the word "therefore" in verses 25 and 34 of Matthew 6 indicates its connection to the earlier verses 24 and 33 of the same chapter. In verse 33 of Matthew 6 for instance, the Lord Jesus had said, "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." He then went on to say, "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."

As we live for God, serve Him and seek the well-being of His Kingdom, we have the assurance that He will supply our needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4 verse 19).

So therefore, don't let your heart be troubled by what's currently going on with our economy and finances. Instead, let's take heed to the Word of the Lord Jesus in John 14 verse 1 saying,

"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." (see also John chapter 14 verse 27)

PRAYER:

Lord, I'm not anxious about how my daily needs will be met because of Your care for me. Glory to God!
