DOING THE UNTHINKABLE
But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Luke 6:35 KJV
This is Dr Luke's account of Jesus teaching on the kingdom lifestyle, and that is the beatitudes.
Luke reports that Jesus taught the crowd many things that becomes the kingdom attitude. He instructs that his followers should:
- Love their enemies
- Do good and lend
- Hoping not to receive back what they gave out.
This is in comparison to the teaching that one should do good and lend only to friends and those that are able to pay back. He says, if that is what we do, then we are not different from the unbelievers who do the same thing.
To be a replica of our Father in heaven, who is kind to the unthankful and to those that do evil, we must love our enemies. For while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.
We are to practice doing good and lending without expecting anything in return. When we do that, we are known as the children of the highest. The only thing that will make the difference is our ability to do the unthinkable.
So being more like God requires being less like men. And that is loving even those that are working against us in anyway.
Who do you start loving today?
- Someone I disagree with
- Someone who thinks differently than me
- Someone who hurts me in the past
PRAYER
MY FATHER AND MY GOD, ENABLE ME TO PRACTICE LOVING THOSE THAT HURT ME AND DO EVIL AGAINST ME AND MY FAMILY. LORD GRANT ME THE ABILITY TO LOVE AND LEND WITHOUT EXPECTING ANYTHING FROM THOSE I LEND TO IN JESUS MIGHTY NAME AMEN.
