DIVINE HEALING: YOUR PORTION (PART 2)
"And, behold, there was a woman which had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years, and was bowed together, and could in no wise lift up herself. And when Jesus saw her, he called her to him, and said unto her, Woman, thou art loosed from thine infirmity. And he laid his hands on her: and immediately she was made straight, and glorified God." - Luke 13:11-13 (KJV).
Part 1 of this series was published on January 25 2023. I tried to let us know that God quickens, heals or restores our mortal bodies (Rom 8:11). I have witnessed God in my ministry heal people of sicknesses and diseases, some were terminal and others were not life threatening. Yes, God heals.
Today, I want us to examine a very important question that boggle the minds of people. It is often asked whether satan does afflict people with sickness? A correct understanding of this matter is helpful in seeking healing for sicknesses and diseases. You probably have come across instances where the sick is examined or tested by Doctors and is found to be medically healthy, yet the patient and others around him know for sure that he's sick and is dying. Why is this often so?
The answer to this question is that some sicknesses and diseases are demonically inspired. In such cases, no amount of medical tests or examination can reveal the cause of the malady; only the effects of the disease are seen. Also, in such cases, there are no medical solutions. Such cases can only be dealt with spiritually. The Bible teaches that demons exist and in the ministry of the Lord Jesus, we are constantly reminded of their activities, mostly manifested in sicknesses and diseases.
Demon harassment and affliction can include sickness. The woman, in the passage from Luke's Gospel quoted above, was sick with a spirit of infirmity (demon). In the course of my ministry, I have come to understand that demons are responsible for many illnesses. Some of the illnesses they afflict people with are life threatening. Nevertheless, we must know how to engage them in Spiritual Warfare to counter them and to get rid of the illnesses they cause.
If that woman in Lk 13:11-13 had lived today and had gone to get a diagnosis, she would have been diagnosed with arthritis in her backbone, curvature of the spinal column, slipped disc, etc.. Yet, the Bible records that she "had a spirit of infirmity"; nobody would have diagnosed that woman with having an evil spirit. Luke, who recorded this event, was a medical personnel. He recognized that satan is the author of sickness. The Book of Job reveals further that satan is the author of sicknesses and diseases.
"And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause. … So went Satan forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown." - Job 2:3,7 (KJV)
In the case of Job, it was boils! In other cases it might be something else. Demonic afflictions very often take after the character of the demon involved. Hence in Matt 9:32-33 we have "a dumb man possessed with a devil"; in Matt 12:22, we have "one possessed with a devil, blind, and dumb"; in Mark 9:25, it was the case of a "dumb and deaf spirit". Numerous Scriptures verify the assertion that sickness is demonic.
Nevertheless, we have a way out of sicknesses and diseases (Lk 9:1,10:19; Matt 8:17; 1 Pet 2:24; Rom 8:11). Hallelujah! I know of people (numerous) who ought to be in the grave today, but are not, because they dared to believe in the Lord for Divine healing. As the Lord tarries, we will be discussing how we can dislodge the devil and his cohorts when we find them meddling in our health. Much later, I will be taking us through ways to access and take the benefit of Divine healing as God has made available for us in Christ Jesus.
