Joshua chapter 6 verses 1 to 25

"And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour..." (Joshua chapter 6 verse 2)

I would like us to observe some important facts about the story of the Israelites and the walls of Jericho with a special consideration on Joshua.

After the death of Moses, Joshua became the one to lead the people of God into the promised land. The Lord gave specific instructions on what His people should do in order to inherit the land of promise. They were to tread upon the length and breath of the whole land, to the end that they might have the full possession thereof. God told Joshua saying,

"Moses my servant is dead; now therefore arise, go over this Jordan, thou, and all this people, unto the land which I do give to them, even to the children of Israel." (Joshua chapter 1 verse 2)

In actual fact, Moses' shoes were too big for Joshua to step into, but with God on his side, he became a very great, influential and successful leader. He was a man of God, a man of the people and also an obedient servant of God. Joshua never doubted what God told him especially in Joshua chapter 6 verses 2.

"And the LORD said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and mighty men of valor."

The good thing is that Joshua had faith in the Lord and believed without any iota of doubt that God had given Jericho into his hands.

In Hebrews 11 verse 6, the Bible has it stated thus:

"But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

Everything that God instructed Joshua to do, he heeded and conveyed the same to the people of God, who in turn adhered strictly to everything that their leader told them.

It's rather unfortunate that the generation we find ourselves today is one of unbelief; where the Word of God is treated with contempt. Any wonder we see less results in our relationship with God? The people in Joshua's time were different from the people of our time. They believed God's instructions and those of His servants. Therefore, the results of their faith and obedience were evident in their lives.

We also can experience God if only we believe Him and do what He is saying to us. Make up your mind for God and His Word, to obey and do what He says. Let Him see outright obedience in you and your lot will never remain the same, in Jesus name.

This message will be continued in part 2 of this series.

PRAYER:

I receive grace to hear and to do Your Word of O Lord, in the mighty name of Jesus.
