TEXT

"Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase: So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine."

(Proverbs chapter 3 verses 7 to10)

The Word of God has categorically told us not to be wise in our own eyes. In other words, we must take the Word of God line, hook and sinker. It is not a matter of choosing and picking what to obey. Another thing is that it shouldn't be twisted to suit our purpose, rather  we are to do as it says.

Sometimes, we naturally want to determine our own course in life. We often forget that we were created by the One that is greater than we are, who has the power to determine everything about us, including our end. We will do ourselves a great deal of good by depending upon the Word of God, and using it as a compass throughout our lives.

The Bible says in the book of John Chapter 15 verse 5 as follows:

"I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing"

In actual fact we can do nothing without God.Therefore, we need to depend upon His Word which is God Himself, making it our compass.

Today's Scriptures says  "Be not wise in thine own eyes:"

To be wise in our own eyes, means trying to be independent of God, which can amount to pride. We cannot afford to be independent of God, because our completeness and fulfillment in life can only be in God.  Every child of God is hereby encouraged to live wholly and directly on God’s grace, abiding in the finished work of God's Christ on the Cross of Calvary.

The " b" part of the verse for the day says, "fear the LORD, and depart from evil."

The Lord is instructing us to fear Him and to turn away from evil. This “fear” is not a horrified dread of the Father, but an attitude of respect that motivates us to obey Him for both our good and His glory.

Furthermore, the Scripture reading for today also talks about honoring God with our substances.

Most times, when it comes to our resources we naturally want to hoard as much as we can for ourselves.  The desire for a better lifestyle or fear of not having enough has led us to holding onto everything we have or have gotten. The Scripture which is our compass directs us to honor God by giving Him the first part of all we have, trusting Him to provide for our needs.

"Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:

So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine." -( Proverbs chapter 3 verse 9 to 10).

If we expect heaven to be opened and blessings to pour out, we must pay our dues unto the Lord our God and to His cause. As we prepare for Christmas, make it your habit to give from your blessings and God will bless you the more, in Jesus name.

PRAYER

Thank You Heavenly Father for not thinking twice before You gave Your Son Jesus Christ. I receive abundance of grace not to be wise in my eyes when it comes to giving unto You, in Jesus name.
