YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED (PART 2)

TEXT

"According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed," (Philippians chapter 1 verse 20, King James Version).

There was something about the saints of old that made their faith thick. Whether we consider the Old Testament saints or those of the New Testament early Church, their faith and confident trust in the Lord was outstandingly daring.

Let's look at our Scripture reading for the day from another version to see what I am talking about. According to the Common English Bible, Philippians chapter 1 verse 20 is rendered as follows:

"It is my expectation and hope that I won’t be put to shame in anything. Rather, I hope with daring courage that Christ’s greatness will be seen in my body, now as always, whether I live or die."

As Christians, our expectations and hope are built on God's unfailing nature and character. The Bible says that with God "is no variableness, neither shadow of turning." (James chapter 1 verse 17). In other words, God is unchangeable in character. He's utterly reliable and dependable. This character of God towards His people makes our trust in Him daring and courageous. "It is my expectation and hope that I won’t be put to shame in anything. Rather, I hope with daring courage ...", says Apostle Paul in our Scripture reading for today.

The question is, what is the basis of your hope and trust in life? Is your hope and trust founded on God's inerrant and unfailing Word? If so, be assured that you will not be disappointed in your expectations. God has a track record of faithfulness to His Word. According to Numbers chapter 23 verse 19,

"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?" "And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent." (1 Samuel chapter 15 verse 29)

The testimonies of those that waited on God or of those that trusted in Him all point to Him as a faithful God. With regards to Israel, Joshua testified saying,

"There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass." (Joshua chapter 21 verse 45, see also Joshua chapter 23 verse 14).

For us as New Testament saints, we rest in God's faithfulness to us in Christ, to the end that we will not be disappointed in our life's expectations.

"For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory." (2 Corinthians  chapter 1 verse 20, New Living Translation)

Hang on, dearly beloved. You will not be disappointed. Your salvation is here!

PRAYER:

Father, as I build my trust and hope in You, I'm confident that I will not be disappointed, in Jesus name.
