YOU WERE BORN GREAT!

TEXT:

"But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee." (1st Samuel 13 verse 14. See also Acts 13 verse 22, King James Version).

For a cursory or hasty reader, the first thought that will come to your mind is that when Prophet Samuel made this statement, David who was God's physical replacement for king Saul was already in existence. This view is furthered by the context of the statement by Prophet Samuel. It was as though the matter had already been done: that "the LORD HATH SOUGHT him a man after his own heart, ... and the LORD HATH COMMANDED him to be captain over his people," (1st Samuel 13 verse 14; Emphasis mine)

But it will amaze you to discover that when this statement was made, David who, as I said, was God's replacement for king Saul wasn't yet born. Actually, he was born eight years after this statement was made.

The Bible clearly shows that the incident that occasioned this statement happened in the second year of king Saul’s reign (Ist Samuel 13 verse 1); after which king Saul reigned for another 38 years (Acts 13 verse 21). We also know that David was 30 years old when he finally became king at the end of Saul’s reign (2 Samuel 5 verse 4). So that means that Samuel prophesied that “the Lord has sought a man after His own heart,” eight (8) years before David was even born!

God said He had sought out a man after His own heart, long before David was even conceived. Oftentimes, the Lord speaks in the past tense, as though the matter in question had been settled. It's amazing how the Lord "hath sought"  and "hath commanded" a man that wasn't yet born! That's our Wonderful God at work and He's known for such rhetorics!

It's therefore correct to say that David was born to be king; that this was the purpose for his being. After the Word of God had gone forth, he came in to fulfill it with astonishing exactitude!

Take the Lord Jesus for another example. Ever and long before He was born, the Word of God had gone forth regarding His birth, life, ministry, death, burial, resurrection, et al! (See Isaiah 53). Over 2000 years ago, Jesus came on the scene to fulfill the Word of God that had been spoken about Him; also with amazing exactitude or preciseness. The same was with king Josiah (1st Kings 13 verses 1 to 2; 2nd Kings 23 verses 15 to 16 ); king Cyrus (Isaiah 44 verse 28, 45 verse 1; 2nd Chronicles 36 verse 23); John the Baptist (Isaiah 40 verse 3; Matthew 3 verses 1 to 3).

In the same vein, I want us to know that the Word of the Lord has gone forth regarding us, even before we were born. Over 2000 yrs ago, Jesus died on the Cross to accomplish God's will for us, and put us in Him (1st Corinthians 1 verse 30). Through Him and in Him has God given us unfettered "access" and "hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light" (Romans 5 verse 2; Colossians 1 verse 12).

In Christ Jesus for instance, you were born great, born to possess eternal life, born a champion, born to live a glorious life, born to live healthy, born to be prosperous, born to have dominion over the devil and his cohorts, born to be victorious over the circumstances of life, et alia. These all came to you in Christ Jesus; long before you were actually born. They constitute your inheritance in Him. Hallelujah!

In Christ, you are completely different from what your ancestors were, you are a brand new creation, old things have passed away, all things have become new (2nd  Corinthians 5 verse 17). Amen!

Like it was with David, so it is with you. You are whatsoever God had long spoken concerning you and all that will be in Christ Jesus, though you were not in existence when He spoke those Words! He actually did speak those Words with you in His contemplation. It doesn't matter what it is with you now. The good news is that you are on course to being what God called you to be. YOU WERE BORN GREAT!

"Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper." (2nd Chronicles 20 verse 20).

PRAYER:

Dear Father, I am what You say I am! It doesn't matter if for now I don't look like it. I definitely am what You say I am, in Jesus name.
