WHOSE HONOR DO YOU SEEK? (Part 3)

SONG:

Jesus must be honored, must be honored, must be honored

My Savior must be honored in my life every day.

TEXT

"He must increase, but I must decrease." (John 3 verse 30).

The Scripture reading for today were the words of John the Baptist, which words were of a heart ladened with humility and dedication to the service of the Master. His proclamation was pointer to the fact that he recognized the supremacy of Christ over his life and ministry. He was sincere and very bold to tell anyone who tried to mistake him for Christ that he was not the Christ, stating,  "... I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias." (John 1 verse 23).

John was most interested in the Light of Christ shining ever brighter while he was content with the background role. Truth is, most times, we claim to seek God's glory, but in actual fact, we do not.

According to John the Baptist, he must decrease while Jesus, the Lord must increase. It portrays a great picture of sincerity, humility and self-emptiness. In other words, John the Baptist was like a vessel that was poured out to make room for Someone greater and more glorious! He was completely sold out to please God, putting aside his self estimation, ego, pride, and ambitions; to the end that he fulfilled all that God had sent him to do. His task was to prepare the way for the Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior. He was so concerned about that, not allowing anything whatsoever to replace the Divine mission; thereby truncating the divine purpose of God for his life as well as the ultimate salvation of the souls of men. With this proper perspective in place, God gave His backing to him and ensured that his ministry grew, prospered and was fulfilled.

In like manner, when we humbly seek God’s honor in all we do for Him and humanity, we become vessels for the growth of His kingdom. In the discharge of our responsibilities as God's vessels, let's do our best to eschew having ulterior motives in our dispositions. We might be able to deceive people and sometimes ourselves, but we can definitely not deceive God. For the Bible says in the Book of Galatian 6 verse 7, "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap."

It's good that we cultivate the habit of seeking God's honor as we discharge our duties so that God’s love and power may fully rest on us to fulfill the task for which we were created.

PRAYER:

Dear Heavenly Father, help me by Your Spirit and Power to seek Your honor above everything else, in Jesus' Mighty name.
