WHOSE HONOR DO YOU SEEK? (PART 2).
SONG:
Unto the Lord, be the glory great things He has done
Unto the Lord be the glory great things He has done
Great things He has done
Greater things He will do
Unto the Lord be the glory
great things He has done
TEXT:
"He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him." (John.7 verse 18)
Looking at the Scripture reading for today, the big question we have to ask ourselves is: whose honor do we seek in our services both to God and to humanity? Do we seek the praises of men or the honor of Him, Who has sent us? In other words, how do you choose: the momentary accolades of men or the everlasting glory that comes from above?
The truth is that many of God's servants or children are caught in the web of seeking personal glory; not the glory of Him that sent them to do His work.
In His earthly ministry, the Lord Jesus was literally passionate about bringing full glory to His Father in all that He did. Hear Him in John 4 verse 34, "My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work" Again, in John 6 verse 38, He said "For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me." Jesus diligently did the Work of the Father that sent Him. He had nothing else to accomplish except that His Father should be glorified by doing His will. In verse 16 of John 7, Jesus says, "My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me."
The Lord Jesus was completely set out to please His Father. As early as age 12, He had settled it within Himself to seek His Father's will.
"And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?" (Luke 2 verse 49).
He did not walk in the way the Jewish leaders walked, but rather, He walked in the light of the Gospel He preached, and by doing so , He did great exploits for His Father. He was never interested in self glory or gain.
Unfortunately, many out there are running ministry for the purpose of enriching their pockets as well as to be seen to be famous in society.
This calls for self-examination. In Matthew 10 verse 8, Jesus counseled His disciples saying, 'freely ye have received, freely give." Isn't it preposterous to use God's gifts to serve our end rather than using them to serve His greater glory?
It is of utmost importance therefore that we seek the honor of Him that has sent us. When we seek the honor of the One Who sent us, that is when we find our paths illuminated to accomplish His divine purpose. Hallelujah!
May God help us all.
PRAYER:
Dear Heavenly Father, teach me to seek Your honor and glory in all that I do, in Jesus Mighty name.
