TRUST IN GOD (PART 1)
"Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength" - Isaiah 26:4 (KJV)
Trust has been defined as an assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something. For the Lord, trusting in Him basically means to rely on Him for whatever you need of Him because of who He is. To trust in the Lord stems from placing reliance on His attributes for which He has been known from ages past. Faithfulness is one of such attributes of God.
It's a settled matter that the Lord is faithful. According to 1 Thessalonians 5:24, AMPC,
“Faithful is He Who is calling you [to Himself] and utterly trustworthy, and He will also do it [fulfill His call by hallowing and keeping you].”
Since the Lord is faithful, trustworthy and unchanging in character, we can rest confidently in His ability to deliver His promises to us, in spite of contrary circumstances that may stare at us in the face. To trust in the Lord implies that we be firm in putting all our reliance on Him, no matter what we may come across in life. This firm conviction in God led Job to testify, saying:
"Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him." (Job 13:15). In the matter of trusting God, the emphasis is on the Lord as against self reliance or otherwise. In the same vein, Apostle Paul would say of the Lord:
"for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day." ( 2 Tim 1:12). This is pure trust in God!
Dear child of God, I may not know what you are going through in life. Nevertheless, I counsel you never to lose your trust in the Lord. In moments of despair, let your faith be anchored in the Lord. No one can be a fool for faith, also for love, joy and hope. In other words, the more of these attributes you possess towards God, the better it is for you.
There are moments when reason cannot help you; past experiences give you no light. At such times also, prayer fetches no consolation. Only a single course is left. You must put your soul in one position and keep it there: Trust in the Lord!
God is unfailing in character. He's never known to have failed any that trusted in Him. In the face of adversity, learn to hold fast your confidence in His faithfulness. The Bible says in Hebrews 10:35 that you "Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.". The New Living Translation renders it more beautifully:
"So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you!"
My counsel to you at this time is never to draw back, never to lose hope but to stand still and see the salvation of the Lord before you (Exo 14:13-14). "Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength" (Isa 26:4)
PRAYER
Dearest Heavenly Father, my trust is in You as long as I possess breath in me. I've heard of Your faithfulness. I'm convinced that as regards my situation, I will see Your salvation soon, in Jesus' mighty name.
