TEXT:

"Now in the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king's command and edict were about to be carried out, on the very day when the enemies of the Jews hoped to gain the mastery over them, the reverse occurred: the Jews gained mastery over those who hated them." (Esther 9 verse 1).

Today, we consider the story of Esther, who by divine providence, became queen in a foreign land. When Haman sought to destroy the Jews, her courage and wisdom, guided by the Spirit of God, overturned the tide, and the very trap laid for the righteous was turned upon the wicked. She had given instruction as follows:

"Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. (Esther 4 verse 16 ).

Esther, bearing the weight of her people in her heart, decided to thread upon the path of bringing to pass their deliverance. Her determination was unwavering. She declared, "If I perish, I perish," signifying her willingness to sacrifice for the good of her people. She sought God's strength to confront the situation that was before her.

We have a lesson to learn from her boldness. It signifies that in times of  challenges, we have to put on courage so that we might be able to tackle the situation.

The most appropriate thing to do when shadows seem to loom heavy upon the heart is turn unto the Wellspring of Salvation. Remember the words of Apostle Paul who wrote as follows,

For I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me.” (Philippians 4 verse 13)

It's pertinent to focus on God when we are faced with challenges of life. Do you resort to prayer and fasting like Esther so that you might find your strength renewed?

We find strength in time of trials, when we go to the Lord. At such moments, we can expect Him to guide us through whatever the problem is. How do we do it? We draw near unto the Scriptures, for therein lies the wisdom, strength and the promises of our Lord unto us.

In the days of old, whenever the enemies of the chosen people rose against them, and they sought to bring about their destruction, the Lord would usually provide strength and deliverance unto His faithful. The evil that the enemies designed would ultimately serve to elevate the people of Israel rather than destroying them. I want to remind us that it's still the same God that we serve. "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day and for ever" (Hebrews 13 verse 8).

PRAYER:

Dear Heavenly Father, I ask You to turn every counsel of my enemies and the enemies of my loved ones upon their own heads, in Jesus name.
