TASTE AND SEE THAT THE LORD IS GOOD
SONG :
Our God is good, He is good,
Our God is good, He is good,
Taste and you will see, knock and it will open. He is good, He is good,
Our God is good, He is good,
Our God is good, He is good,
TEXT:
"O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him." (Psalms 34 Stanza 8, [Amplified Version])
The goodness of our God can not be overemphasized. He is good and gracious to all and sundry. God loves us His creatures so dearly, that He gave His only Begotten Son as a sacrifice for the entire World. (John chapter 3 verse 16). God is ever ready to do good unto us at any point in time. He demonstrated this by sending His only Begotten Son to die for humanity. If He could do this, what else can He not do for us who are called by His Name?
It takes the one who has found God, and who has known Him to tell of Him to another saying, "taste and see that the Lord is good." The Psalmist says, "O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him.” (Psalm 34 Stanza 8 [Amplified Version])
I believe the Psalmist had experienced a taste of God's goodness, hence he could confidently say to others to "...taste and see..."
To taste something is not what someone else can do for you. It's something you have to do for yourself. I might take a bite of something and tell you how wonderful it tastes, but you have to taste it for yourself to know how it tastes. Until you venture into the enterprise of seeking and finding God, you may not experience Him in the manner the Psalmist has testified of Him.
God has never disappointed them that put their trust in Him. "For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed." (Romans 10 verse 11).
So therefore, blessed, happy, fortunate and to be envied is the man who trusts and takes refuge in the Lord. This is what it takes to experience God's goodness. The man who trusts and takes refuge in the Lord will never see shame, but will in the end be termed blessed, happy, fortunate and one to be envied.
When this becomes your lot in life, then your testimony will be in agreement with the Psalmist that God is indeed good.
PRAYER
