NEGLECT NOT TO SERVE IN LITTLE AREAS
TEXT:
"And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward." (Matthew chapter 10 verse 42, King James Version).
To most of us, giving a cup of cold water to quench someone's thirst may seem utterly insignificant, moreso when the recipient is one that's categorized to be "one of these little ones ... in the name of a disciple". But that is not the case with God.
On the contrary, Jesus said "verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward."
Many Children of God are seeking out high profile jobs to do for God. They believe that's the only way to make a great impression that will bring them higher commendation from God or whoever they are seeking to impress.
The desire to impress others is the bane of many a Christian. It is in the pursuit of that desire that people seek for "mighty things" to do for God. By so doing, they neglect what they consider as "unimportant", "little" or "small" spheres of service which God incidentally holds very vital to the sustenance and the advancement of His kingdom.
Again, the earlier we get to understand that in the economy of God, we don't get great opportunities until we are proven faithful in small things, the better it will be for us. The Lord Jesus said something to that effect in Luke chapter 16 verse 10. According to Him,
"He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much"
Take the opportunity of whatever is available to you with which to serve the Lord. Better still, don't wait for bigger or the so called "greater opportunities" to come your way before you serve the Lord. For instance, you don't wait until you have a drum full of water in your possession before you can minister unto the Lord. In the Scripture reading for today, Jesus said that a cup of water will do; and that anyone who does that will not lose his reward.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord God, I promise to serve you in whatever capacity that you may choose to bring my way, in Jesus name.
