TEXT

"Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts."  (Jeremiah 15 verse 16)

The Scriptures have been given to us by God "for our learning" (Romans 15 verse 4), "for our admonition" (1st Corinthians 10 verse 11) and to help us to chart the right course for our lives.

Today's Scripture reading reveals Prophet Jeremiah's attitude to God's Word. He found them and he ate them. The Idea here is that he read and savored God's Word in his innermost being. The New Living Translation puts the "b" part of today's verse this way. "They bring me great joy and are my heart's delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God Almighty." (Jeremiah 15 verse 16.).

Are you cast down or despondent because of what you are currently going through in life? Does it seem to you that you have no reason to continue to forge ahead in life? Prophet Jeremiah was most probably in a more dire situation than you currently are. His triumph over those debilitating circumstances of life was occasioned by the fact that he found God's Word and he ate them. Consequently, in place of dejection and depression, they brought him joy, hope and gladness of heart.

Therefore, whatever it is that you are going through in life at this moment that has stolen your peace and joy can be reversed. God's Word has the ability to restore whatever you might have lost following the adversities and trials of your life. When we are dispirited, God's Word gives us strength, succor and relief.

Again, Job was a man that experienced great trials and temptations in life. Today, he's a shining example of faith in the Lord. His attitude in life is summarized in chapter 23 verse 12 of the book named after him. According to him, "Neither have I gone back from the commandment of his lips; I have esteemed the words of his mouth more than my necessary food."

According to this great servant of faith, he considered God's Word to be of more value to him than his necessary food. This is mind-blowing. In the depths of your heart, do you recognize and appreciate God's Word to your life?

Any wonder that Jesus said, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." (Matthew 4 verse 4).

Truth is, the Gospel is powered by the Holy Spirit to impart immediate positive effect in the hearts and lives of men any time it's preached. Learn to take advantage of it because God's Word is Life giving. As we avail ourselves of it in times of difficulty, we gain strength and stability to move on in life with hope. The promises in the Word of God are like the spring that brings fresh water to the dry land. God's Word nurtures the soul. It comforts the weary, brings peace to the troubled spirit, and guides the lost upon the way.

Now, the question is, what do you do with it? Jeremiah found them and he ate them. Job on the other hand considered them more than his necessary food. According to the Lord Jesus, man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. I encourage you today to begin to value God's Word to the end that you will come through the challenges of your life with victory, in Jesus name.

PRAYER:

Thank you, Heavenly Father, for making Your Word available to me. By Your Word, my path has been illuminated and my walk in life has been strengthened and steadied.
