GOD IS MORE THAN YOU CAN IMAGINE!
TEXT:
"They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep." (Psalms 107 verse 23, King James Version).
Don't limit God by your present experience of Him. He's infinite in greatness and much more than you can ever think or experience (see Psalms 145 verse 3). Understand that there are other experiences about God amongst men that are very novel to you, even as your particular experience of Him may be new to someone else. Each one of the experiences that men have had of God showcase His greatness, nature, wisdom and power. Again, God is vast and His ways are past finding out (see Romans 11 verse 33).
Psalms 107 verse 23, our Scripture reading for today tells of the experience of those that go to do business across the sea. The next verse tells us their experience of God: "These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep."
Truly, there are peculiar "works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep."; and these are distinct and different from the works of the Lord and His wonders in the open or elsewhere. Without doubt, the Lord is God that does great wonders (see Job 9 verse 10). In life, your experience of His work depends on where you are, that is, whether you are in the deep or in the open, as the case may be.
For instance, the experience of God by the fish in the deep is distinct and different from the experience of God by the rabbit on the land; while the experience of God by the bird in the atmospheric heavens is not the same as that of the rabbit or fish. It depends on where they find themselves. While no one of these experiences tells of the fullness of God's work, power or glory, each one tells of an aspect of Him that's worth knowing.
So therefore, you can't limit God by your peculiar experience of Him in life. Truth is, there's much more to experience about God than we know or experience. What He gives you to know at any given time is what you have of Him. Others have something different about Him from what you currently have of Him.
In spiritual parlance, this is called the "revelation" of God. In Exodus 6 verse 3, the Bible says,
"And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty (EL-SHADDA), but by my name JEHOVAH (YAWEH, LORD) was I not known to them." (emphasis added). In other words, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob didn't know God as “JEHOVAH” and until God revealed Himself to Moses as "JEHOVAH" (LORD, YAWEH), he only knew Him as "God Almighty"(EL-SHADDAI), which was the name by which God had revealed Himself to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, his progenitors.
From that moment onward, Moses began to know and experience God as "LORD", in addition to having known Him as "El-SHADDAI", God Almighty. This is to say, in other words, that you will function in life to the extent of the revelation given to you by God of Himself. Definitely, there are other aspects of God’s work or glory that you may not have known, which you need to know. This accounts for instance, why there are different spiritual gifts, but by the same Spirit (see 1st Corinthians 12 verses 4 to 6).
But the good news is that you will have more knowledge of God given to you when you seek or ask for more of Him (Matthew 7 verse 7). This will enable you to have a greater experience about Him. God is ready to grant your request because He has specifically said in Jeremiah 29 verses 13 to 14,
"And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart. And I will be found of you, saith the LORD:" It's exciting to experience or know more of God. Any wonder in Philippians 3 verse 10, that Apostle Paul prayed that he might know more of God? So therefore, "Let's do our best to know the Lord." (Hosea 6 verse 3, Contemporary English Version). As we do this, we can be rest assured that He will reveal Himself to us more than we can imagine, in Jesus name.
PRAYER:
Dear Lord, may I not limit You by my little knowledge of You. I want to know more about you. May you reveal more of Yourself to me, in Jesus name.
