BY HIS MERCIES, WE ARE NOT CONSUMED

SONG

I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever, and I will sing of the mercies of the Lord. With my mouth, I will make known Your faithfulness through all generations...

TEXT

"It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not." (Lamentation 3 verse 22)

In spite of the devastation caused by the enemy upon the people and the land of Israel, the Psalmist was hopeful that the time of restoration would come. He believed that one day  Zion would return to her former glory, and that she would attain a more desirable state. Rather than succumbing to the discouraging situation that presented itself, he resorted to prayer and positive confession.

Indeed, the mercies of the Lord are everlasting, and His grace upholds us in our frailty. As it is written, "For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations." ( Psalm 100 stanza 5 )

Do we recognise and appreciate the mercies of God shown unto us daily as we live? In the trials we face, do we not see the Hand of God doing valiantly, guiding us, even when we walk through the valley of the shadow of death?

God has chosen to show the entirety of humanity His mercy. Though many out there do not know this, nevertheless, the Church does.

Psalms 102 stanza 13 says "Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: for the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come.”

Zion is a symbol of God’s chosen, she represents not only a place but also a people, a community bound together in faith. When we reflect upon our lives, we will see how much of God's mercies we have enjoyed in the time past. I can assure us that much more awaits us in the time to come, even as we continue to believe and trust Him as we go through life. Hallelujah!

The LORD has great compassion for His children and a yearning heart to restore and uplift those that need help. As it is written, "The LORD is gracious, and full of  compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy." (Psalms 145 stanza 8)

The mercy of God is a precious gift, bestowed upon us by His grace, and it is ladened with the needed power to heal and to transform us. I advise that we do not take it for granted, or live in ignorance of it.

PRAYER:

Precious Father, I am grateful for Your mercy towards me, I do not take it for granted. I enjoy it to the fullest in Jesus' name.
